Curious about how to work from anywhere, but not sure if freelancing is really your thing? You will love what our CEO and founder, Esther Inman, discussed with Taylor Lane of Remote Like Me.

If you have followed Virtual Assistant Internship for a while, you know that Esther helps people to start their own business as a virtual assistant. This means that you are your own boss, set your own hours, and help clients with just about every task under the sun!

You do the kind of work that you want to do, where you want to do it, and when you want to do it.

Not everyone is interested in being their own boss, though. Some people want the security of having a steady job with an employer who can provide benefits like health insurance and a retirement plan. That’s where Taylor comes in.

Is a Remote Work Life for Me?

Taylor helps people just like you find jobs working as a remote employee for established companies. She shares all the ways that you can stand out when you apply for jobs that will allow you to work from anywhere.

Military spouses, digital nomads, stay at home moms, and anyone who wants to live with the freedom of not being chained to a desk – this is for you! I’ll give you some of the highlights, but make sure to check out the video for all the deets on how to land that remote gig you’ve been dreaming of!

Here are our top tips on how to stand out in the online world!

1. Get Your Resume in Shape

The very first thing Taylor and Esther say is that old school black and white resumes just aren’t going to cut it anymore. Get familiar (and creative!) with a tool like Canva to help you spice things up.

It is so important to customize your resume for each specific job. Check out the video for more ideas, like creating your own media kit or a website!

2. Don’t Underestimate a Modern Cover Letter

Taylor has some great tips on writing an effective cover letter, as well. Her biggest tip: make sure it isn’t boring!

You can use any type of format you want (not just the standard paragraph format of the last century), just make sure that you are grabbing their attention and making them want to check out your resume.

Don’t be afraid to be bold! You can even do something fun like a video!

3. Be Easy to Hire

Esther wrapped things up with one of the most important things to keep in mind: make it easy for the person reviewing your application! Supply everything they need to see how great you are! Let them know when you’re available to interview so that neither of you have to deal with the back and forth of setting up a time.

Bottom line: the information in this video is absolutely essential if you want to stand out from the crowd while applying for virtual work. The work from anywhere movement is here. People are realizing that living life in a cubicle isn’t the only option.

Use these tips to land a remote gig and you’ll never want to go back!

You’re worth it.
