How to Know When It’s the Right Time to Uplevel in Your Business

how to know when it's time to uplevel your business

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with all the things that you have going on in your virtual assistant business, there’s not enough time in the day, or you’re working on tasks that you’d rather not be doing – then, most likely, it’s time to uplevel in your business.

Improving and upleveling your skills is necessary when you work in the online space. And like any great business, growth is inevitable. So, to take your business to the next level, you need to uplevel.

You may be wondering, “when is the right time to uplevel in my business, Esther?” I’m glad you asked! The truth is there’s no one right answer.

Upleveling can be many things, including raising your rates, finding a new client, when you’re bored with the basics, when you think you want to niche down or change your current niche, when you want to learn a new skill or offer a new service, or even when you aren’t getting the desired results for your client, and you need to change things up.

It’s all part of being a business owner. So here are 3 ways how you can uplevel in your business.

1. Learn Everything That You Need to Learn

As a business owner, you are constantly learning new things, new technologies, new systems, etc. You need to be able to adapt to the changes. A great way to do that is by watching all the YouTube videos, listening to all the podcasts, and reading all the websites about the skill or service you want to learn more about.

The more you know about a subject, the more specialized you become, and the more your clients look to you as the expert (which results in you charging more for your services). Um… YES, PLEASE!

If you want to niche down to something specific, consider taking a course in that ‘thing’, to help you gain expert knowledge.

Knowledge is power.

As you continue to improve your skills, the more confident you become in offering specific services. Depending on the niche you choose, your new skills can be in high demand, which can ultimately leave you as the go-to person for that service.

This is also why it’s important to know what you want to do first and why you want to do it. The more passionate you are about something, the more you’ll want to learn naturally. It won’t feel forced, and it won’t feel like a burden.

2. Find a Mentor

Another way to uplevel in your business is by finding a mentor. Hire a coach, find a mentor, or join a mastermind – the right fit will depend on what your goals are, so do your research and ask your network for recommendations.

The sooner you can find a mentor, the better.

It’s hard to start a business alone with little to no guidance, and having someone there to give you feedback and direction is the best way to move your business forward faster. Not only will this be a big stress reliever, but you have a better chance of skipping the mistakes that most people make when trying to grow their business.

Having a mentor is like having another set of eyes in your business. They may see things that you don’t, other directions your business can go, and they may be able to provide you feedback on something you didn’t know you needed.

A mentor can also provide you with many networking opportunities. If they spot potential connections or opportunities, you’ll be the first on their list.

A mentor also gives you the reassurance and encouragement you need as a business owner. It can be challenging to pick yourself back up when you experience failures or missteps along the way. They allow you to take a step back and re-evaluate the situation from a clear perspective and adjust accordingly.

3. Build a Team

You’ll get to a point in your business when you feel like it’s time to start outsourcing the tasks you don’t have time for. The more you grow as a business, the more your workload piles up, so the next steps should be to hire someone to help you complete the work.

Think about how business owners outsource their tasks to you. It’s the same concept – but this time, you’re the one doing the outsourcing.

It’s an exciting time to see your business grow, and this is a great opportunity for you to start scaling your virtual assistant business into its own agency.

Building a team can seem far fetched if you’re just starting, but it can happen to you a lot sooner than you think. You will also know exactly what you’ll need to do to transition the work over to another virtual assistant or freelancer just from the experience of doing it yourself.

If outsourcing seems scary to you, don’t wait until you have too much work to handle. Instead, start small.

Outsource little tasks here and there to become more comfortable handing over pieces of your business.

The more comfortable you are with outsourcing, the sooner you can do it, and the easier it will be for you to focus on growing your business.
