BUT that’s just not true!

Of course, moms and dads will need more preparation time, they will have more things to consider and the traveling will be different BUT not fewer adventures.

7 Ways to Educate Your Kids While Traveling
1. The Most Obvious Way of Education: Homeschooling
It doesn’t matter if parents work part time or full time somewhere. With homeschooling, one of the parents will need to take the time to educate the children using books, online curriculum or a mix. Usually, there are different workbooks: Math, writing, reading. And sometimes there are also workbooks for science, art, and history.
But what does a workbook help with in science? Should families do their own science experiment on the living room table?
Kinda risky, right?
If families want to try more difficult education options like science experiments and art projects for themselves then they can go for it! Otherwise, thank goodness for online videos.
Great help are homeschooling packages, sold by schools, where kids have their set schedule to walk through. With this package, families can travel and just take it everywhere they go.
This has become the more popular option but not really feasible unless one parent stays home and teaches. In the case of both parents working, they won’t have time to actually sit down and teach their children, therefore homeschooling might not be for everyone.
2. Hiring an Au Pair That’s Eager to Explore the World
Au Pairs are usually young people from different countries, that help with housework and childcare in exchange for accommodation, food, and a small salary. Mostly, Au Pairs are eager to travel, so that might be a good option for a nomad family.
It’s incredible how much parents get done during the day while the Au Pair takes care of their children! And when they travel – depending on what country – those extra expenses families have for an Au Pair might not even be that much because their money is worth so much more depending on the country.
3. Free Virtual Public School
Yes – it is what it sounds like! There are virtual public schools that kids can go to for free that are through the public school system. Isn’t that amazing?!
Children log in at a certain time, teachers are live or have assignments for them to do. Parents don’t have to do anything. They can go to work while their kids sit in the living room or kitchen, on a desk doing schoolwork.
Connectionsacademy, for example, is one of more than 100 free virtual public schools in the U.S. The only difference is that the classroom is at home.
4. Customized Education with Virtual Private Schools
With this option, families need to find someone that’s able to teach all the subjects their kids need. They can hire any credentialed teacher that can teach the subjects. Some online educators have their own online courses while others meet 1 on 1 over a virtual video software during set times from wherever in the world. Children can log in and just follow the steps on the education plan.
The 1 on 1 teachers will charge by the hour and usually do have a minimum of hours that need to be purchased. The good thing about it is, that some of those teachers do custom projects. For example, if a family is planning on going to Malaysia for 6 weeks. Then those teachers will make a package all around Malaysia integrating science, history, math, etc.
Studies have proven that project-based learning is the easiest way for children to learn, and it shows that it can increase student motivation and retention.
5. The Most Fun Way to Learn: Worldschooling
This is a new movement in nomad families. Worldschooling is a mix of homeschooling and traveling.
It encourages kids to be kids, to explore their creativity, curiosity, and have adventures by getting out of the classroom. That’s the best way to learn because it’s so engaging.
In this style of education, parents make their own projects out of their travels. Families that choose this option take their kids to the beach and teach their children about the beach and ocean wildlife. Their kids learn quickly without sitting down in a classroom, only talking about it and never physically go there. This way kids will have a real-life experience.
6. The Very Liberal Way: Unschooling
Unschooling gives the kids permission just to be a kid. Without any kind of structure, children explore their curiosity and explore their own adventure. The goal is to get them outside and encourage them to play with sticks and rocks. To let them connect with nature.
However, when choosing this way of education, children don’t learn how to summaries or multiply. But at some point in their lives they need to know how to do math and with unschooling they won’t learn it overnight.
7. Very Good but Also Very Expensive International Schools
This might be the most expensive option but considering the great system, it might be worth it. International schools exist all around the world. Their main language is English and all schools follow the same education curriculum.
Children can effortlessly switch from one school to another and won’t have any problems adjusting. These schools have international students, mostly diplomatic, state department, and expat business owner’s children.
As promised in the beginning, there are tons of options out there. Parents just need to find the right school for them and their family. It’s pretty easy to locate those schools and find out how to enroll their children.
Sometimes families consider choosing a mix between 2 or 3 methods that they like the most. For example, the mornings can be filled with maths and science and afternoons can be scheduled with world-schooling like “let’s go on an adventure”.
Traveling with kids is so much fun and it gives parents and their little ones a whole new experience.
That experience is priceless.
