It’s no secret that you can make money doing what you love as a virtual assistant.
There are so many paths you can take, and so many niches to choose from! Once you fully commit to building your online VA biz, you’ll soon realize that there are endless opportunities.
But as you continue to grow, the faster you work, and the more confident you become in your abilities, you may notice yourself hitting a financial plateau.
The one where you’re struggling to land that high-paying client, or you can’t seem to increase your monthly income. Then, you’re left wondering – “What am I doing wrong?”
I’ve been there! And that’s when I knew it was time for me to uplevel in my business!
So, I signed up for a $12,000 a year mastermind.
It’s safe to say my husband thought I was NUTS! But I was stuck and couldn’t figure out how to make more money while working online.
A mastermind is a group of business owners mentored by a coach that gets together to share strengths, hold each other accountable, and network with a like-minded community.
In short, it’s a business club, mostly online – mine happens to meet face-to-face twice a year.
I joined this one specifically because I didn’t know how to diversify my income sources, what to do next, or connect with the high-end clients I wanted.
However, I did know that the mastermind’s leader had already done the exact things that I wanted to do in my business, and they’d already helped about fifty other business owners advance to the next level.
But I’m not the only one. This happens to all of us!
So, I’m here to teach you the 3 pillars of being a true girl boss, how to thrive in the online world and make the choices to serve you and your business goals best.
Pillar #1 – Know when it’s time to invest in yourself to get to the next level.
I can tell you with 100% certainty that if I hadn’t invested that whopping $1,000 per month, I’d still be doing the same things that I was before.
I found the money within our budget by thinking about my spending patterns and whether my purchases moved me towards my goals.
I’m not saying get out there and spend $1,000 on a mastermind right now, but rather to be honest with yourself. Take note of your spending habits and negative self-talk.
Maybe you don’t have the skills you need to up-level yet. That’s totally fine! Understand that it’s okay to ask for help or reach out to someone that can help you get to where you want to be.
You can’t uplevel alone, which is one reason I created my signature program, 90 Day VA.
I wanted to help other moms, military wives, and travelers level up their skills and take control of their lives by becoming their own boss. I teach my students precisely what they need to know to start working online as a virtual assistant.
Pillar #2 – Set goals that push you outside your comfort zone but are still attainable
I want to share with you the 4 crazy audacious goals that I set a few years ago.
- Help 200 women work online
- Be on a magazine cover
- Be a guest on a top podcast
- Buy a rental home
These goals seemed insane, and I loved them, but they were still attainable.
Find that sweet spot between “OMG, this is crazy” and “If I work hard enough, it could happen.”
Be ruthless about what you want to attain, then filter everything else accordingly. Ask yourself, “Is this going to help me attain my goals or not?”
Just before I joined the mastermind, I maxed out at $60K. This was after I’d already been working online for a few years. The first year after joining the mastermind, I more than doubled my income at $150K. This last year, I hit $2 million.
I’m not sharing this with you to brag. I’m sharing this because I’ve found that it’s incredibly empowering to know how much other women are making online. Let them be your guide.
You won’t reach new heights until you know that they’re possible.
I used to have a tough time talking about money because I know there are so many struggling to get by. Yet, that was ME just a couple of years before my $60K year.
The point is to invest in yourself.
I invested in the $1,000 per month mastermind, which I got back tenfold. It was a sacrifice I was willing to make at the time. A couple of months, I had to email them and ask if I could make a late payment!
Be ruthless about attaining your goals and stretch yourself. You’d be amazed at the things you can accomplish!
Pillar #3 – Determine your measurement of success.
Do everything you can to remove yourself from what society, family members, and well-meaning friends think you’re supposed to do.
Your path looks different than everyone else’s, so there’s no point in comparing.
When I first quit my fancy corporate job to work remotely as a virtual assistant, everybody thought I was crazy. They told me – working online is a scam.
“A VA? What’s that?”
Often, we don’t consciously realize how much we let others direct our actions. You may be thinking you’re pretty autonomous in your thinking but let me share a few thoughts holding you back. And you may not even realize it:
- You must have a traditional 9-5.
- You won’t have health insurance (especially true for Americans).
- You can’t save for retirement without a 9-5.
- You have to have a college degree to make a good income.
- Online long-term contract jobs are not consistent and unstable.
- You’re not successful until you’re a homeowner.
- Living abroad is dangerous.
After helping over 4,000 women (and men!) work online, we have ALL broken these stereotypes.
I am here to tell you that those scary thoughts holding you back? None of it is true.
The saddest part is that these binding mindsets will keep you from achieving your goals until you break them down and change them.
There are so many more options out there. If you only want to do a couple of projects a year and live in a tiny home with no mortgage, you can do it.
If you want to make $50 an hour working online without a college degree, you can do it.
If you want to keep your corporate job while you test out your new side hustle as a virtual assistant, you can do it.
The bottom line is that working successfully online as a VA is an attainable goal in a short timeframe.
Remote work is becoming the norm, and there are entire companies solely dedicated to helping online workers get health insurance and save for retirement.
I want you to start thinking outside the box and dream big about how you want your life to look.
Stop comparing yourself to anyone else because you get to be the designer of your life. You make the rules, and there are no negotiations.
I’m genuinely so excited for you and all the possibilities that await. The first step is the hardest, but once you have the right tools, the right mentors, and the right community to support you – you are unstoppable!
