Are you struggling to find online work? Are you starting to doubt if this is a “real” job opportunity and if you can make this work? Your frustrations could be due to your job application being lost in the virtual system because it’s NOT standing out amongst the competition.
You will love what our CEO and founder, Esther Inman, discussed with Taylor Lane of Remote Like Me on how to stand out amongst competition when applying for online jobs.
If you have followed Virtual Assistant Internship for a while, you know that Esther helps people to start their own business as a virtual assistant. This means that you are your own boss, set your own hours, and help clients with just about every task under the sun!
You do the kind of work that you want to do, where you want to do it, and when you want to do it.
Not everyone is interested in being their own boss, though. Some people want the security of having a steady job with an employer who can provide benefits like health insurance and a retirement plan. That’s where Taylor comes in.
Stand Out When Applying for Online Work
Taylor helps people just like you find jobs working as a remote employee for established companies. She shares all the ways that you can stand out from the competition when you apply for jobs that will allow you to work from anywhere.
Military spouses, digital nomads, stay at home moms, and anyone who wants to live with the freedom of not being chained to a desk – this is for you! If you have been struggling to land online jobs, then you need to have the skills to stand out from the competition when you apply.
I’ll give you some of the highlights, but make sure to check out the video for all the deets on how to land that remote gig you’ve been dreaming of!
Here are our top tips on how to stand out in the online world!
1. Get Your Resume in Shape for Online Work
The very first thing Taylor and Esther say is that old school black and white resumes just aren’t going to cut it anymore. Get familiar (and creative!) with a tool like Canva to help you spice things up.
It is so important to customize your resume for each specific job. Check out the video for more ideas, like creating your own media kit or a website!
2. Applying for Online Work: Don’t Underestimate a Modern Cover Letter
Taylor has some great tips on writing an effective cover letter, as well. Her biggest tip: make sure it isn’t boring!
You can use any type of format you want (not just the standard paragraph format of the last century), just make sure that you are grabbing their attention and making them want to check out your resume. This is vital for standing out when applying for online work, don’t skimp here and make it your own.
Don’t be afraid to be bold! You can even do something fun like a video!
3. Be Easy to Hire When Applying for Online Work
Esther wrapped things up with one of the most important things to keep in mind: make it easy for the person reviewing your application! Supply everything they need to see how great you are! Let them know when you’re available to interview so that neither of you have to deal with the back and forth of setting up a time.
Bottom line: the information in this video is absolutely essential if you want to stand out from the crowd while applying for online work. The work from anywhere movement is here. People are realizing that living life in a cubicle isn’t the only option.
Use these tips to land a remote gig and you’ll never want to go back!
You’re worth it.
